Stephen Callaway sits at a table by the window in a small cafe. He stirs a coffee while glancing out the window. He removes his coat and looks at the camera.
Stephen
"The first thing that strikes me when I look at the advertised card is the small number of matches. Now, while that should concern me, I can't help but see it as less bodies between myself and the titles in this company. I admit it, before people start accusing me, I want to be at the top of this and every company that I compete in.
That's not over confidence, it's drive. I see titles as a motivation, a way of saying I am better than those I compete against and I am the best in my field."
He takes a mouthful of coffee and adds a trickle of milk before stirring yet again.
Stephen
"That brings me to this week. I will talk about my opponent in more detail in a moment but right now let's talk about the fact that she is a champion. She is, the last I paid attention, the Lionheart Champion. You see our match may not be for the title but I know that a win over the champion, even in a non title match, can propel me up the rankings and could even make me the number one contender. That's how I see the match. I don't see it as man versus woman or Stephen versus Natalie. I just see a champion and an opportunity to move up in the rankings."
He takes another mouthfull of coffee.
Stephen
"But let's talk for a moment about a female opponent. I don't like doing it but I've wrestled women a few times before. I used to look at facing women as wrong. I got hell when I was at school because I got into a fight with a girl. Never mind the fact that she was bigger than me, taller than me and had a better right than me. I got hell from my teachers and from my parents because I turned my fists on a girl.
In the last couple of years when I've needed to do it to get a title shot or because it was a way of letting management see me, I have wrestled women. I have realized that they are not the fairer sex or the weaker sex. What they are are the hardest hitting, most hungry, most toughest opponents that I have ever faced. "
Yet another mouthfull of coffee and a bite of chocolate muffin.
Stephen
"Natalie Burrows is no exception. She was the product of an unfortunate upbringing, a mother that was never there when she should have been. A Father that was taken away from her. She fought for what she has. She battled, scraped and clawed for what she has. There is no better proof of this than the title belt in her possession given the names in it's past. She has what should be a 'male title' around her waist or over her shoulder. For a woman to have that shows me just how tough she is.
I have watched her, studied her and trained myself to be ready for her. I can only hope that I can beat her. I know I can beat her. I have the belief that I can beat her and that on any given night I can beat any and all opponents placed in front of me. This Monday, I just need to prove it."
He drinks the last of his coffee. He Stands up and buttons his coat before walking out of the cafe carrying what's left of the muffin.
