A) Writer of the Year - Obi.
Starting off out of character here...We normally have Face of the Year, Heel of the Year and Superstar of the Year, but the Staff agreed to consolidate those categories. Why? Because one handler dominated those three categories: Obi.
It's not an easy thing judging who wins awards, but we agree that Obi has been absolutely phenomenal. Oblivion suffered just one loss this year, a loss at the hands of Xplode in what was an incredibly difficult match to judge. Whether writing as TITAN or Oblivion, Obi has wowed us with skills that even some professional authors lack. He has won titles, he has dispatched of tough enemies, and all-around he has been consistently amazing since the start of 2011 all the way through to the end. On top of that, Obi has shown the one thing valued most in e-fedding: Commitment. Show in, show out, Obi has shown his support and dedication to the federation, and has consistently given brilliant showings.
I don't know if anyone disagrees, but I personally think that Obi deserves this award, as do the Staff. A great friend and a great writer.
B) Moment of the Year - Rivera winning control of the company from Kennedy.
At Retribution, Mark Rivera managed to begin the destruction and absorption of the EUW by defeating Kirk Kennedy for control of the company. With the aid of Roy Viper and his steel chair, Mark Rivera’s Empire, consisting of several of the most ruthless and downright dangerous superstars within the federation at the time, finally scored victory over Kirk Kennedy’s EUW to merge the company into the EUW-Asylum. Rivera’s reign has been brutal and oppressive ever since taking over, with TITAN acting as the World Champion and demolishing his opponents while Rivera carefully manipulated and manoeuvred around the board in order to ensure his position was secure, with this moment proving to be bigger than anyone could have imagined…but 2012 appears to be the dawn of a new age. Whether Rivera’s empire will continue to flourish or not is a question that may be answered very shortly.
Honorary Mention: Xplode defeats Oblivion at Prestige 2011
It was a match of the year candidate, but the Prestige blow-off was important for the moments it gave us: Not only was it both mens send-off in the federation they have graced for years, not only was it perhaps the culmination of one of wrestling's greatest feuds within recent memory, but it was also Oblivion's first loss in 2011, perhaps fitting that it came at the hands of his very own brother.
While it is unsure what the future holds for both men, it is certain that they have given us memories to cherish, whether winning titles or engaging within bloody, hard-fought battles, but the moment that Xplode fittingly dispatched of a man who was invincible in 2011 is a moment that we will probably never forget.
C) Match of the Year - Oblivion vs Maynard Hetfield - Scars and Stripes 2011
The match which closed a bloody feud between two men who absolutely reviled eachother. Scars and Stripes 2011 saw several bouts of interference, with it being far from a one-on-one match and instead being a war between the Devils Due and the Las Vegas Commission as both groups turned Scars and Stripes into a violent clan war the likes not seen since ancient Scandinavian times. Both men and groups fought all over the arena, attempting to downright kill eachother with vicious weapon strikes and violent utilisation of their environment before brawling back into the ring where the blood continued to flow. In the end, Oblivion forced Maynard Hetfield to tap with The Dirt Nap, thus ending the incredibly violent and vicious rivalry and ending a match which was little more than a flesh-ripping brawl as opposed to a technical masterpiece. No matter the result, both men fought a battle that will be remembered decades from now within the EUW-Asylum.
Honorary Mention: Rivera vs Kennedy - Retribution 2011
While the moment itself will never be forgotten, the match itself is memorable for what it yielded, with a surprise interference from Roy Viper that sounded the death knell for Kirk Kennedy, but it also showcased talent between two men who were more content doing business in the offices as opposed to inside the square circle. Both men annihilated eachother with superb manoeuvres and with an assortment of weaponry in what proved to be a hellacious street fight as both men went all-out to fight for their company, with Kennedy even dropkicking a trash can into Rivera’s face at one point, showing the fans that even the bosses can take and dish out some damage. In the end, it was Rivera who won and managed to dispose of Kirk Kennedy who hasn’t been heard from since.
D) Feud of the Year - Maynard Hetfield vs Oblivion
There are very few feuds that involve kidnapping, outright violence and threats of death, but Hetfield and Oblivion's saga contained it all. When Maynard Hetfield dumped the Mr. Luck moniker and began carving through the federation, very few people anticipated that he would challenge Oblivion in his madness...but he did. In a battle that spanned several months and kidnapped friends and family members, both men absolutely obliterated eachother week in, week out: Whether mentally or physically, both men were committed to their rivalry and constantly tried to outdo the other. In the end, it was Oblivion who managed to end the feud with a win over Hetfield at Scars and Stripes 2011 which many saw as a Pyrrhic victory, with the Big Dog damn-near annihilating himself to get a win over his hated foe. After the dust settled, Oblivion won the battle...but did he win the war? If the feud had only went on longer, who knows what would have happened? It's a question that we will forever ask..but a question perhaps best left unanswered.
Honorary Mention: TITAN vs Chris Sabora
Both TITAN and Chris Sabora definitely aren’t strangers to eachother, and 2011 proved to be yet another battleground for them. Continuing from 2010, both men fought valiantly into 2011, starting at Blood Red Horizons where Sabora managed to demolish the monster to retain his gold. Yet in March 2011, TITAN recaptured the title, and even managed to put the champion, who was enjoying the longest World Championship title reign in EUW history, on the sidelines. Like all good rivalries, though, the bad blood between the men simply did not boil over. In July, Sabora returned again, his eyes set upon the gold and upon vengeance against the monster Both men exchanged words and blows before the two would collide for the final time in 2011 at Scars and Stripes. Both men fought tooth-and-nail once more over the coveted World Championship, but TITAN defeated Sabora to retain his gold. In the end, Sabora bowed out like a true champion in order to attend personal matters, while TITAN moved on to further press his foot against the throat of his competitors clawing at a chance to demolish TITAN. Is this the end of their rivalry? No-one knows, but 2011 was just another battlefield for both of these legends.
E) Rookie of the Year – Roy Viper
Roy Viper managed to seize the year as best he could, and it certainly showed. Throughout the first months, Viper performed solidly in his matches, uniting with Team EUW and scoring wins over opponents such as Bane and Eddie Laurel. Following Blood Red Horizons, Viper forced himself into the Pure Championship picture against men such as Brett Cross, Jack Bull, Danny Tenfold and Warrior. Viper showed very little fear to opponents more experienced and twice his size, and absolutely wowed the crowd at Back2Roots 2011 in a gigantic Ladder match. From that moment on, despite his chases for the gold coming up short, Viper consistently amazed and pressed forward: After shocking the world by bringing a chair down upon the skull of Kirk Kennedy and gifting Rivera the company, Viper was even given a World Championship shot and continued to push forward to win the Pure Championship (Now the Lionheart Championship). Viper finished the year on a high note, tying with Bane in a Tables match and utilising his Seven Sins to great effect by continuing to push forward in his chase for the Lionheart Title. Even if you disagree with his methods, one cannot deny that Viper has consistently pushed forward and attempted to get himself to the top of the mountain, and has refused to let the dips in his record get to him as he continues the push forward for gold and for glory, and that is truly Rookie of the Year material.
Honorable Mention – Natalie Burrows
Burrows managed to make waves within the federation ever since her arrival, scoring major victories over Danny Tenfold and Shawn Ashen, as well as surviving a fair amount of time within the Royal Rumble. Regularly battling against Roy Viper and his Seven Sins towards the end of the year, Burrows capped off an impressive year by becoming the first female Lionheart Champion after defeating Danny Tenfold for the coveted strap, thus becoming the first ever female champion within the EUW-Asylum. As such, Burrows enters 2012 on a high note, but with her and her title firmly in the targets of many men looking to gain the title for themselves. Only defeated once by Roy Viper, Burrows could very well be keeping her title for a long time to come.
F) Most Improved Superstar of the Year - Maynard Hetfield
As Mr. Luck, Maynard Hetfield was regularly overlooked and overshadowed as little more than a pawn. One day, something snapped in his head, and Mr. Luck adopted his birth name as his wrestling name. From that day onward, Maynard Hetfield shattered his chains and blazed a trail through the EUW after losing the Tag Team Championships the Las Vegas Commission had previously won. As Hetfield, he scored many big wins, the most notable being at EUW Brawl where Hetfield defeated six other mastodons of the ring to claim a World Championship shot that was cruelly revoked by Rivera thanks to Hetfield’s constant mockery. Before that, Hetfield shocked the world by putting his target on Oblivion’s chest and chasing down the legend. While Hetfield came out worse each time, his kidnapping of family members and mercilessness put his name on everyone’s lips, even surviving Scars and Stripes and returning the very next show while Oblivion remained incognito after a violent battle. Hetfield’s luck ran out after insulting Rivera and the sheer desolation of the federation and its contenders too many times, and he was sent home and his title shot revoked. Yet in 2011, Hetfield somehow managed to field one final Kings gambit: He lost the title shot, but gained the position of Chairman of the Board. From Tag Team Champion to Chairman, it isn’t difficult to see where Hetfield managed to improve and how.
Honorary Mention - Illidan Bane
Bane won his first match in EUW with a victory over Jackal, and continued to simply grow from there: Scoring impressive and hard-fought victories throughout the year, Bane was a stalwart of the Hardkore division as he chased gold, putting in a brave showing at Back2Roots 2011 in the Hardkore Battle Royal. Bane’s lust for glory wasn’t just limited to the Hardkore division, as he even fought at EUW: Brawl in a valiant effort to secure a Pure Title shot, and continued to grow, battling men such as Jack Bull, Brett Cross and Roy Viper, before scoring a huge win over Immanuel Taylor and winning the Hardkore Championship, his first taste of gold within the federation. From winning his first match to becoming Hardkore Champion to managing to battle to a tie with Viper in a vicious Tables match, Bane has certainly improved over the year, and deserves the honorary mention. 2012 could very well be Bane’s year.
G) PPV Of The Year - Prestige 2011
Very few events live up to their hype or their importance: For Prestige, EUW's landmark event, it certainly managed to do both. For the months preceding this event, the World Championship scene saw Cross, TITAN and Chuck Johnson regularly involved, with CJ acting as the ensemble darkhorse while Cross and TITAN did their best to absolutely demolish eachother in the weeks before the event. In the end, it was TITAN, the bloodthirsty brute with an insatiable lust for power and glory, who managed to best his long-time rival and the Bifrost Brawler. However, one can bet that this rivalry won't be ending soon, especially not if Chuck Johnson, who wasn't pinned in the match, has his say. One cannot forget the Lionheart Championship match either, which saw Danny Tenfold finally meet his match at the hands of the Rookie of the Year. Natalie Burrows had managed to demolish most of her opponents while using her charisma and humble charms to win over a loyal fanbase, the same fanbase who nearly caused the arena to explode when she picked up the Lionheart Championship in a hard-fought battle. Prestige 2011 was also another battleground for the brothers, Xplode and Oblivion, as both men fought to an unforgettable match. Xplode, who had been outmatched and previously retired at Oblivion's hands, managed to do the impossible by pinning Oblivion after a match which went around the arena and saw buckets of blood spilt. No-one can forget Lavery/Young or Callaway/King either, which saw the future of EUW battle to two brilliant matches, with Lavery and Callaway picking up victory in their prospective matches. All four men impressed in the weeks leading up to the event, and all four men put on a show that simply told the crowd: 'This will be the event of the year'. Topped off with the announcement of Maynard Hetfield becoming the Chairman, Prestige 2011 undoubtedly wins PPV of the Year.
Honorary Mention - Back2Roots 2011
Back2Roots was the first PPV that solidified Mark Rivera's empire as the force that posed a threat to the Kennedy regime of EUW. The card was certainly star-studded and intense in Rivera's effort to showcase the power of his empire: Matches such as Tyreke Bell picking up victory over veteran Christian Stephens and London Strife, as well as a violent all-out brawl between the veteran Diabolik, Bane, Jackal and Immanuel Taylor which ended with Taylor picking up the victory and his first taste of gold in the company, and also the Las Vegas Commission retaining their Tag titles against the Dogs of War. As if that wasn't enough, a huge Pure Championship ladder match occurred with the veterans Jack Bull and Warrior, as well as the hot young guns Roy Viper, Jace Ambrose and Danny Tenfold, with the young Danny Tenfold picking up a shock win, as well as an unbelievably violent brawl with Oblivion defeating Dante Holly. The show was punctuated by a classic 4 way between TITAN, Fallen One, Brett Cross and The Scorpion, with The Scorpion shocking the entire world by claiming victory and the World Championship. It was to be just the first of a series of heart-stopping PPVs under the Rivera Regime.
One To Watch Out For in 2012 - Brandon Young
Young is certainly hot stuff rolling into the new year. Starting off his Singles career with impressive victories over Roman Cripate and Scorpion in a Triple Threat as well as Isamu Suzuki following a debut victory over Body and Soul with Natalie Burrows, Young wasted no time in hunting for gold, and boy did he: In a ruthless Hardkore match, Young captured his first taste of gold barely under 4 months after his debut. In spite of this, Young remained with his head in his game, and despite ending 2011 with a loss to Caoran Lavery, he kept himself in the spotlight by joining Natalie Burrows in their attempts to stop the Seven Sins of Ireland from their constant interference in shows, attempts which even led to a backstage brawl on one occasion. Rolling into 2012 with a belt around his waist, Young still remains par for the course as he continues to take the spotlight. While many rising stars have debuted in the past few months, people would be foolish to ignore Brandon Young as he begins what is bound to be a meteoric rise through the ranks of the EUW-Asylum.
Honorable Mention - Caoran Lavery
If there is one man who is going to send waves throughout the federation in 2012, many people won't look further than Caoran Lavery. A man shrouded in mystery but who is already causing whispers around the crowd for being able to get the job done and get it done well, Lavery could very well utilise his harsh offense and incredible intellect to use the new slate that is 2012 to climb high in the federation. Currently undefeated and even boasting a win over current Hardkore Champion Brandon Young, Lavery may very well already be on the stairway to success.
Starting off out of character here...We normally have Face of the Year, Heel of the Year and Superstar of the Year, but the Staff agreed to consolidate those categories. Why? Because one handler dominated those three categories: Obi.
