‘Danny, Bane, Danny, Bane, Danny and Bane, why in the world am I in another triple threat?’ I asked Tai and myself as I paced back and forth in my room. I was up early for a radio show I was asked to do and the rest of the Seven Sin’s were passed out from last night’s fun. While I hadn’t won the rumble I still competed and why morn a loss when you can’t change it? Tis not how I do things, I live life, hell. When we landed in Dublin we went to a bar, and I got to be the sober one which left my mind to dwell on the match Mark told me about before I left, Danny verses Bane verses me.
‘Because you’re working with Mark and he doesn’t know what you’re good at. Or it could be because too many people not enough time so more people per match. Or it could be that you lost favor last night and Mark wants you to prove yourself again.’ Tai piped up to my annoyance. Regardless of his reason for interrupting my rant of thoughts he had a good point. With what happened at the rumble I was out of favor, if not with Mark with myself. Failure wasn’t an option, while I can’t change what happened I can change the future and I will but how?
‘You are right Tai, time to shift gears into overdrive. A snake cornered is a snake ready to strike.’ I think to him with a slight smile. Ah a strike, simple pain, something neither Bane nor Danny will see coming. Maybe bringing up Bane’s old partner, Danny’s old buddy Jack, or I could always just grab the nearest weapon and blindside either of them, it is a no disqualification match after all. But none of this solves the problem at hand, tactics like that can give you an edge but won’t give you the win. ‘How do I beat a guy I haven’t pinned while a guy I’ve stomped twice is around interfering?’ I ask him shifting my internal thought into something he was privy to.
‘Eliminate one of them? I mean you were a street fighting king in Ireland and a hardcore revolutionary in Japan, why not use those skills? Step back from the politics and just go all out barbaric as a true Irishman.’ Tai suggested. Barbaric Irishman; men of raw power and fearlessness, men that painted themselves and fought their foes naked to mess with their enemies, men that gave everything to win, men like me. I had been lost in the glamor and showmanship of the business I had lost my roots. I needed to get mean, to drive myself over the edge, to become the true master of opportunity.
‘Tai, you are once again right, I need to let go of showman ship. No more flash no more flare. Hit them in the mouth, knock them down, and kill them. Never let up an inch and when they do break their neck. Titan is the monster of the Asylum, well what’s worse than a monster? Because that is what I will become, someone that people fail to understand and fear. It might mess with the plan of things but if the fans are going to hate me I might as well give them something to hate.’ I explain as I shake with excitement. While things were already in motion for Prestige that was weeks away what did I care my job was to wrestle Danny and Bane at SNV, screw the big picture I’m going out to have fun my way, the sadistic masochistic destructive way. Just the thought of my options was making my hands twitch; I needed something to vent my enjoyment. I close my eye and imaging Danny and Bane in front of me. My rage and my passion ignite and I lose myself in the thought of pummeling them.
I pull my hand out of the plaster marveling at the flowing blood from the cuts caused by punching a wall. ‘Roy, calm down. Its okay, I get that you’re blood is flowing, but slow down. You’re a professional wrestler not a character in street fighter. No need to go overboard.’ Tai cautioned on deaf ears. I didn’t care about my job or my life Danny and Bane would be shown why I commanded the Seven Sin’s, why I came back and destroyed Peter before Back to Roots, why I was the devil according to the Catholics. A snake on a mission of destruction can leave moats of bodies in its wake. Dissatisfied with the lack of equipment in my room I head for my door with the intent of dominating a punching bag with my remaining time.
Fate however is funny, as I open the door Morgan is standing on the other side in nothing but my mesh shirt from last night. Her eyes are hazy, her stance is that of a tired person, and her hair was a mess; obviously she hadn’t slept. Yet none of this interested me, she was in my way and I needed to tear apart something. “Yes Morgan?” I groan holding back the venom in my mind from extending to my mouth.
‘This crazy naked bitch better get out of my way. A punching bag with the face of Danny or Bane is calling my name,’ I think while waiting for an answer.
‘Roy calm down. It’s Morgan your ex. Daughter of Shamus the owner of this house.’ Tai said soothingly hoping to lessen the fire inside me. If anyone knew what I was capable of it was Tai and he had seen me like this before. Back when I was new to Japan and was putting guys in the hospital every week. Back when I was what I was supposed to be.
“Hey Roy, are you ready for the interview?” she asked looking me up and down as she always did with her tongue dancing around her teeth. As she went over my arms she noticed the vain lines and blood. With Morgan being Morgan she knew the kind of mood I was in. “Don’t kill the radio DJ please, we can’t afford another lawsuit. Get in talk about your match piss some people off and come back. I’ll have the files when you get back and Shamus will have the boys ready, Peter and John are similar to Danny and Bane so enjoy the free for all.” She commanded changing her tone. When she first spoke it was her normal flirtatious tone and yet she wised up and talked business before moving out of my way.
‘How did she—“ Tai asked before I cut him off moving past Morgan with no more than a nod and her watching me walk out of the house.
‘She knew me before you did. She got me in this state of mind. It’s not about the match it’s about sending a message. My motivation is the same Tai, don’t question that. I WILL be remembered at SNV and whether it’s for a win or for killing a man I will be remembered. The only difference is I no longer care about the games we’ve put together. Mark can kiss my ass I just want to break some bones.’ I say cutting him off. I grab the keys on the counter as I pass the kitchen on my way out letting the door slam shut from the force I put into closing it.
‘But Roy we’ve worked so hard and you could become a face again.’ Tai pleads the fear in his voice evident. My shift in nature was causing my mental conscience to shake in fear just that thought caused me to cackle, but the pleading to calm down just annoyed me.
‘Tai I get it but faces and heels are not important to me. The fans make that up. I’m out there to be remembered and whether they love me smashing in Danny’s face or pulling Bane’s arm out of socket is not something I control. I won’t change who I am for them but I will do shit they’ve never seen or thought possible, shit that will make their jaw to drop. Why, because I’m Roy Viper and that’s just what I do. Danny baby face Tenfold and I’m stuck in my past Bane will be the first to feel the sting of a Viper that has lost his restraints.’
‘Roy, think about what you’re saying. What about the Seven Sin’s, your record, Mark, Sara’s letter?’ Tai said airily. The shock was obvious in his voice.
‘They all have their time and place and none are here and now. Here and now I destroy a punching bag and prep for crushing Danny and Bane into dust so that I’m calm and collected for the interview later.’ I answer with a twisted smile as I again examine my bloody hand with fascination. The human body could undergo far more punishment than most realized and I will thoroughly enjoy pushing Danny and Bane’s bodies to the limit, but that would have to wait until Russia. In the mean time I had gym equipment to abuse.
A Hour Later On Air With Dublin's Biggest Radio Station
“Hello everyone this is your favorite morning DJ James Clover and with me is the Asylum superstar, and Dublin’s own, Roy Viper. Roy thank you for joining me today, I know it’s early and you’re probably tired from your flight in last night.” James starts us off after a commercial break.
“Well it is a Morning Show James and anything to promote the business. Just because I’m not the champion doesn’t mean I don’t have the company on my back.” I answer with a slight smile reassuring him while doing my best not to yawn at the boredom of the introductions.
“A company you in a way started back at Retribution, correct?” James adds interrupting me and earning a roll from my eyes.
“Yes, James, yes I have a hand in ending EUW and creating the Asylum, but I’m sick of people talking about that. Stop living in the past, we just had a Royal Rumble, and in Russia it’s once again a battle of the raising stars as Danny Tenfold, Bane and myself main event the show. Who honestly still cares that I put Kirk in the hospital and put Mark in power?” I ask letting my voice raise and fall with my frustration at the constant topic. What happened four months ago was history and I don’t dwell on history unless it’s relevant and Kirk wasn’t. Not to this interview anyway.
“True, Roy, very true just checking my facts” James answers quickly with a flustered tone. I shrug as I think, what the hell, and before he can continue I motion for him to let me handle it.
“It’s okay James, you’re a radio DJ it’s your job to get information and give it to the public. You might be checking facts but you are also leading up to the over asked, ever constant, why did I do it. And I can’t have that. I had my reasons some are known others will be relieved when the time is right. Come on James you watch the show what am I good?” I pause for the effect. “Shocking people. I was number twenty five and didn’t make it into the final four in the rumble. Kinda shocking wouldn’t you say? Or calling out Titan at the beginning of the show, not my usual thing, but it got people thinking, what is with this guy, and thus I gain their interest and attention. I’m not a headline, I make headlines.” I stop so James can actually host his show.
With a sigh of relief James smiles at me before prompting the conversation. “Well if that’s the case what will the next headline you make involve? I mean once again you and Danny are in a match against each other, in what’s sure to be an interesting main event.”
“Well, why ruin the surprise? And sure it’s another match with Danny but it’s also another match with Bane, and yes this matters. While I’ve beaten Bane in the past he’s moved up the ranks again and we’ve crossed paths, to me that means it’s time to drop him down a few pegs again and get him out of my spotlight.”
“So you don’t think much of Bane?” James asks quickly cutting in, in a hope of grabbing some sort of control of the show.
Unhappy with the interruption I decide to put James in his place and correct him. “Now James I didn’t say that. I said I want him out of my spotlight, Bane is good but we’re on different levels, maybe when I finally make up my mind which title to go after I’ll let him main event but while I’m still in the mood to fuck with people that main event spot is for top dogs and people that make statements not for cops that are work horses without charisma.” I pause to allow James to ask a question giving him the illusion of control.
“So you mean the likes of Titan, Cross, yourself, and who? Who do you think deserves to main event with you? Obviously not either Danny or Bane meets that standard.” He asks jumping to conclusions and acting as any reporting, twisting words to start rumors and get ratings.
“Again you put words in my mouth, James, but I’ll answer your question anyways. Who do I see sharing the main event spot? Danny, Scorpion, any champion, Jace, Nat, Roman when his dues are paid, Luck, Oblivion, Sabora, and probably Xplode if he came back seriously. See I share but I have my reasons. Each person I listed knows how to involved the crowd somehow. I go out and drop jaws, Danny gives them hope, Titan scares the shit out of them, Cross brings the mystery of Midguard, Scorpion has his faith, Luck makes them understand evil, so on and so on. I want to face people that not only are good but have the X factor, Bane doesn’t have his yet, when he does I’ll see him as a threat. Danny on the other hand is a guy I haven’t pinned or been pinned by yet we started at the same time. We’ve been on team EUW, then I did my thing and he’s had issues with me since even though he hasn’t asked me about it or bothered to talk to me. So last night he took his childish frustrations with me and took the opportunity I gave him to eliminate me. Congrats to him he can out last people by playing my snake game. Well Danny boy you want to play a snake I’ll show you a real snake.” I pause as I see James listen to his head set before pressing a few buttons.
“I don’t mean to cut you off Roy but we have to take a quick beat. Well Dublin stay tuned to hear more from the Viper on the flip.” James cuts the microphones as the commercials play. “Off to the WC and get a drink. Take a rest, but congrats on a good first showing. Most guys freeze their first time” James says standing up and grabbing his bottle.
As he walks past I decide to acknowledge his words. “Thanks didn’t think it’d be this easy. Tv is so much harder since I have to worry about movements.” James nods before walking out of the door.
‘Stupid mark. Guy let me walk all over him. It might as well be called The Cobra Viper Live.’ I say to Tai hoping to kill time. I lean back in the chair the studio provided for me and prop my feet up. I was glad I had vented my blood thirst before I showed up since James was pushing my buttons and Morgan would have been right to warn me, but I was good now. I didn’t have to be the guy people wanted to nail my tongue to a tree and knock over; that was reserved for when I needed it, not now. Now I was a superstar of a company promoting the company. After this damn interview I could go back to being my true self, just had to keep it together until then.
‘Well to be fair you are the focus of the interview, you have a lot to say, and he isn’t asking the right questions. I’m just glad you haven’t snapped and gone over and injected him into the soundboard.’ Tai responds trying to be lighthearted and keeping my emotions at a manageable level.
‘Tai trust me the thought crossed my mind, so how much longer do I have to chat with this waste of air? This is boring and time consuming I should be in the gym or ring prepping for Russia, for Danny, for Bane. Not sitting here, hyping a show.’ I groan in discomfort. While I had agreed to this I hadn’t expected to be interviewed by an adult with the mental capacity of my dick. ‘Think outside the box moron Retribution is old news and Scars and Stripes is in the past as well. God I just want to bash his head in with his own microphone.
‘ROY! None of that, you agreed to do this so do another segment, thank him for his time, drive home safely, and then beat the holy hell out of something, not before then.’ Tai scolds me like a mother watching her child stare at a match wanting to light it but marveling at just the idea of it. I rotate the chair and see James coming back down the hallway out of the corner of my eye. ‘Now be professional,’ Tai adds quickly understanding I wanted to shock James by demonstrating a small bit of what I would do at SNV on James right now.
“Ready?” James asks entering the sound booth and taking his seat. As he walks in I visualize all the different ways I could lay him out with the objects in the room or my own body. James was five foot five, no more than one twenty pounds and was not built. Taking him out would be easier than Eddie was all those months ago.
‘Roy, focus.’ I hear Tai suggest as James turned to look at me waiting for an answer.
I cough and shake my head to cover up the delay. “Yep lets finish this up.” I answer hiding a sadistic grin. I might have to behave while here but that didn’t mean I couldn’t fantasize.
‘If you want to imagine anything imagine what you can do to Danny and Bane in two weeks. Be productive mentally instead of being a walking demolition bot.’ Tai adds quickly hoping to get in between my thoughts and channel my desire for pain. As I look at James I see him start the sequences of buttons that will make us live again, giving me about fifteen seconds to question Tai.
‘You really want me to do that? I’ll get fired up and won’t be able to think straight.’ 10 seconds
‘Better than you getting fired up about taking out the radio host, now focus on the interview then I promise you a Tai free training session and a lot of pain for Danny and Bane. Okay, can you do that for me Roy?’ the tone Tai used reminded me of a human talking to his pet dog. Balling my fist I try and control myself.
‘I don’t know, after your tone I might not, but I’ll try.’ I respond through a hiss letting him know just how close to gone I was. I take in a few deep breaths as James presses the last button.
“Welcome back James Clover here with Dublin sensation Roy Viper. So Roy since I had to cut you off midstream is there anything else you’d like to add about your match at Sunday Night Vengeance with Tenfold and Bane?” James asked in a chipper voice of someone looking to push buttons.
“Yes, James, there is.” I answer letting velvet cover my voice and show just how close to snapping I was. “I’d like to say while I hold no ill will against either man they better have their wills drawn up and have a coffin ready.” I narrow my eyes and lock mine with James’ so he could witness just how sinister someone can be. “It’s a fucking Triple treat match people. No rules one of three men will be pinned and one will be the victor regardless of what he does. So Danny, Bane bring you’re a game and kiss your love ones cause you’ve fought Roy Viper before but not in this state of mind. I won’t end the match until the EMTs are holding me back because you both have lost too much blood from what I’ve done. Danny I still owe you from Back to Roots and that ladder stunt, not to mention last night at Scars and Stripes. Danny I promise you a few things. First a steal pipe will be introduced to your back, second that a baseball bat will make contact with you, and third that I will thoroughly enjoy injecting that cute baby face of yours into a table covered in tacks.” I pause and smile at James marveling at the fear in his eyes and the sweat covering his forehead.
Cackling into the mic I continue my proof of insanity. “Bane I’ve beaten you before so I’ll be quick with you, a steal chair to the head and then sending you through the announce table should be enough. But if you do decide to get in my way I might just have to break your back with my good friend mister sledgehammer. I think I’ve added enough James anything you’d like to ask?” I question releasing him from our stare and receiving a gulp for an answer. “Guess not. Well Dublin this is Roy “The Cobra” Viper signing off of this radio station for now. Be warned though if you drop by the Seven Sin’s place I will assume you want to help me train for SNV and won’t hesitate to show you just what will be unleashed on Danny and Bane.” With that I cut both microphones and press James’ big play button to roll music.
‘You just couldn’t help yourself could you?’ Tai asks as I stand up and walk out of the room still cackling, while James fell out of his chair in utter horror with his mouth hanging open.
And so Roy left the studio leaving most of the employees stunned from what he said and the fact that he was laughing all the way out of the building. His words would have been fine on their own, but it was the cackle that was the shocking part. Roy’s demeanor suggested that not only was he dead serious about what he said but that he would truly enjoy causing his opponents unimaginable pain. His exit had left them all wondering if he was right in the head and if not what would happen when he was allowed to set into a ring and do whatever he wanted to two other human beings.
Roy spent the rest of the week in a mental state worse than his leading up to Scars and Stripes. The guys had to literally hold him down to eat and even then most were sore or had scars from training with Roy. He had lost any restraint holding him back from his barbaric roots in the ISFA and the group was paying for it.
Shamus, Mary, and Morgan all understood Roy better than the others due to the time spent together and that they knew about Tai. Even with those three understanding him he was still too focused on the destruction of Danny and Bane in everyone’s mind except one. Morgan didn’t think he was too focused and because of this she was the only one Roy hadn’t isolated himself from. In practice she would be the one telling him to grab a chair, a pipe, or a kendo stick. It was as if Morgan knew now what Roy was capable of and she intended to let him unleash hell.
What will happen in Russia when this new Roy fought Danny and Bane? What could Roy come up with on September fourth that will wow the audience? What will the effects of Morgan’s desire for power and Roy’s evolution into a destructive snake mean for the Seven Sin’s and the Asylum? Where will you be when the Asylum invades Moscow and Danny Tenfold, Bane, and Roy Viper take center stage in a three way dance at EUW’s Asylum?
‘Because you’re working with Mark and he doesn’t know what you’re good at. Or it could be because too many people not enough time so more people per match. Or it could be that you lost favor last night and Mark wants you to prove yourself again.’ Tai piped up to my annoyance.
