“We have plenty to talk about”, Octane stated just as we sat down. Kendra and I were well on our way through this Apocalypse, aided by absolutely ludicrous conditions. And somehow, in the most ridiculous situation of them all, things finally began to make sense. Here we sat, with old friends and once even old enemies. Through everything that had happened, all the hell that had broken loose, all the lives that have been lost, and everything that would simply never be the same, we were simply sitting there like old times. Warrior and Octane. “As much as I'd love to sit and make jokes, reminisce about old times, and just relax, I'm afraid things just aren't that simple anymore.”, Octane states. Of course, the moment I seem to like things...they just aren't that simple anymore.
“I've heard some rumors recently, that now seeing you seem to make sense. I heard tale of someone arriving in Marble Falls of all places. Somewhere that even I hadn't heard much about. Then I got an odd report that almost the entire population of Marble Falls had vanished. Of the very few left, one child confirmed that someone new showed up right before. A large man and a little girl. The family happened to not go out of their home for a few days, some of them had fallen ill and those who were well stayed in and kept a watchful eye on the others, taking good care of them. When they finally came out, they found that a large part of the town was red, and the lake was filled with the bodies of what used to be the town's population. I get this uncanny feeling that you two were responsible.”
With those last words, for this few moments after, we sat in possibly the most awkward silence I have ever endured. The reason being, is that the way Octane said it...I couldn't tell if he was angry or amused. Which considering that me and my thirteen year old daughter committed mass murder and slaughtered an entire town...that's a pretty big distinction to make. So for what was probably a mere few seconds, we sat there deadlocked in an unbreakable gaze and silence. To which I finally uttered, “And?” Octane giggled, before responding. “Well, I think you misunderstand me. I have no intention of getting you two for what you did, attempting to go after you or 'put you in jail', none of that nonsense. We are in a different world now, and things like that are going to happen. We cannot reason as to why, but they just will. It just so happens that you were caught up in them this time.”
“Now, my real interest lies not with exactly what y'all did. Instead, with how on Earth did you do it? I know you are tough, and no doubt it was passed on to your lovely daughter here...but several thousand people? And you two appear unharmed. Then on top of all this, I hear stories that not a single firearm was recovered. Not that you two took everything, but that there was no indication of any gunshot wounds, any shell casings, nothing. Like you two ripped them apart with your bare hands. How in the hell?” Octane finished his statement and I turned to Kendra, realizing we had to find some inventive and fun way to explain this to him. What? We had to find something to be entertained by. I simply turned to Octane and said, “Give us just one moment.” He nodded and leaned back, curious as to what would happen.
Kendra and I talked for a moment, before I backed up and stood near the center of the room. I knelt down, so that my torso was just around three or four feet off the ground. Kendra backed up against the wall, acting as if preparing for an olympic dash. She tilted down just a bit, before bolting across the room in an almost invisible bolt of lightning. She dove directly through me, going at such high velocity that there was no resistance at all. I stood up, not panicking, not screaming or yelling, and turned my front towards Octane. There was a nice roundish hole in the center of my torso, for which you could see clear to the elevator. There was also a mass amount of blood on the floor. I stood there for a moment, and within seconds my entire body repaired itself without any indication of what had happened. Well, except for the now large whole in my shirt which I hadn't quite thought through.
Octane sat there, jaw neatly placed on the floor, astonished at what he had just witnessed. Even Queen Firepower, as she is now referred to, could not comprehend what had transpired. I knew I had to give a quick explanation as to how we got the way we are, I suppose as entertaining and fun as that was...it would be a little much to someone who didn't get what we had become. Especially to someone who had known us for so long. So I simply said, “Roswell. Radiation.” With these simple words, Kendra and I wiped the bit of my blood and guts that had gotten on our faces and sat down in front of the desk. What followed was a quite contradictory few moments. Rather than the tense awkwardness and uneasiness, this was a tense moment of absolute hilarity. It was all Kendra and I could do not to burst out laughing in front of the two of them as they just sat baffled at what happened.
After what was certainly more than a few seconds, Octane managed to pick his jaw up off the floor, roll his tongue back in his mouth, let things realign, and speak. “Well...uhh...woah. Seriously? Wow. I had no idea the magnitude of how powerful you two have become. This puts me in a position that I expected to be in, but in a very different mindset than I had planned. I must confess some of what has been on my mind since you two arrived. Upon showing up, I do not deny that I was genuinely surprised to see you. My oldest friend, mentor, and enemy, accompanied by his own daughter. As we were first talking though, I began to put two and two together. Or at least, Firepower put three and seven together, and slid it to me under the desk. Realizing that if you two could take out Marble Falls, which with the intel we had it became clear that you did, then you two could be a great aid to our country.”
I was suddenly puzzled by this. “What great aid could we offer to Texas?” Octane giggled, realizing again how much we weren't aware of. “I suppose that requires some explaining as well. While I know you do have southern mannerisms at times, you are a native to Colorado. As compared to myself, whom is indigenous to this very city. Now, upon our separation from the United States of America, we realized quickly that as great and vast as our lands were, we needed more. It is then that the lightbulb went off and the decision was made. Plans have been in works since the event and are getting very close, to invade and conquer Mexico. We have been planting seeds with some local Texans, formerly natives of Mexico, who are so in favor of our country and how things are run here, they are willing to fight on our side should a conflict arise.”
The gears began to turn, and things began to click in place, but I replied still slightly unsure hoping Octane would make things perfectly clear. “What exactly are you asking us?” Octane leaned back and grinned. “I am simply asking Warrior and Kendra to serve as the Commanders of the 23rd Sam Houston Battalion which will be on the front lines in the war to acquire Mexico.” Things clicked together in my head just as he was saying this, and it caught both Kendra and I off guard. I wondered, and immediately asked, “Do you really think a battalion of soldiers will listen to the commanding orders of a forty year old man and his torturous and bright, but young, thirteen year old daughter?” Octane smiled, and reassured us. “Don't worry, with one demonstration like you two showed me earlier, they'll be plenty happy to stand behind you in battle.”
I looked up at us, as we stared back. I glanced to Kendra, we locked us and had an entire conversation without words. “Do you really think I could lead an entire army?”, she asked. This was the last response I expected, but I simply assured her that “I wouldn't dream of doing this without you at my side. You could easily lead an entire army or more, and I'm so proud of you for that.” Kendra grinned, as Octane sat a little baffled at what had just occurred, for he had heard nothing. We turned to him with smiles on our faces. Sadistic, blood-thirsty, torturous, frightening, psychotic smiles, but smiles nonetheless. And simultaneously, Kendra and I replied “Show us our soldiers.”
