Back 2 Roots tunes in starting off with an opening video. The video highlights many things from the past weeks. It begins by showing clips of the announcement of the Pure Title Contendership Tournament. In addition, it shows clips highlighting the Downpour Elimination. Clips of every entrant are shown, as well as many clips from the announcement of each. Following that is a very long stretch of clips highlighting the long standing rivalry between King and Meltdown. Clips from as far back as them in Titan are shown. To clips of their starting days in EUW, last years Back 2 Roots, and even recent clips leading into this big match. Following the video package, the camera shifts to Madison Square Garden showing a large display of fireworks. The sold out arena seems absolutely packed, holding more than 20,000 fans in attendance. The camera pans around seeing several signs such as “Meltdown is 4 Real!”, “The Champ is Here!”, “Tournie Time!”, “Xander X vs. Xplode....TOO MANY X’S!”, among several others and the common “Don’t Fire Hi Octane’s that litter the crowd.
The camera continues to pan around the arena when the feed is suddenly interrupted by the following video.
JJ: Oh my god! You have to be kidding me! Trent Sickness!
Larry: What a shocker! We haven’t even had a match and this PPV is already electrifying! Trent Sickness is back!
JJ: Well regardless of Trent’s return, we have to get this show under way.
Larry: And it’s time for our first match of the night.
John Walt: It is now time for our opening contest!
The lights dim as golden confetti is launched over the entrance way. Xplode walks out and stands at entrance for a bit staring at the crowd. Making the sign of the cross in tribute to God...he then begins to march aggressively towards the rings looking very focused.
John Walt: Introducing first, from Sacramento, California...weighing in at 220 pounds...he is Xplode!
He climbs into the ring and turns towards camera. Standing in center of ring he looks over the crowd, then with both hands he raises them high above his head and lets loose a primal scream..golden streams of fireworks emit from all 4 corners of the ring.
Halloween II by Danzig Plays through out the arena. Xander X walks slowly down the ramp, jerking away from any fans who try to touch him. Xander slides into the ring.
John Walt: And his opponent...from Big Delta, Alaska...weighing in at 195 pounds...he is Xander X!
He circles the ring surveying the crowd, until he finally stops in the center of the ring. He holds his arms above his head in X and gold pyros fire beside the ring to form an X.
Xplode and Xander X square off in the center of the ring. Both men go in for a tie up, but Xander pulls back. Xander holds up his hands, telling Xplode to wait. Xander grabs the top rope and starts to stretch.
JJ: Both men seem somewhat nervous about this.
Larry: Well it’s their first match and they’re opening the biggest event of the year, Back 2 Roots! I’d be nervous too!
Xplode stomps and the ref tells Xander to get into the match. Xander nods his head and say he’s ready. Xander and Xplode start to circle. Again, both men go in for a tie up and this time the connect. Xander goes for a hip toss, but Xpolde blocks and body slams Xander hard.
JJ: There’s a very big body slam by Xplode.
Xander bounce back to his feet and hit Xplode with a hard knee to the stomach. Xander grabs Xplode by the hair and hits a stiff right hand to the fore head. Xplode staggers backward, leaning against the ropes. Xander calmly walks up to Xplode and hits him with an open palm slap to the chest. Xander grabs Xplode by the arm and tries to whip him into the far corner.
Larry: Now that’s what you call an Irish Whip. Or in this match. X Whip!
Xplode counters and throw Xander hard into the turnbuckle. Xander flies backwards out of the corner and sprawls across the mat. Xplode taunts to the crowd and picks up Xander. He hits a DDT on Xander in the center of the ring. Xplode grabs Xander, but Xander comes back with a rake of the eyes. Xplode turns away. Xander comes at him from behind and hits a blistering open hand slap across the back.
JJ: Ouch! I could hear that!
Xander goes for his wrist clutch suplex but Xplode twists out of it and pulls Xander into a piledriver, driving his head hard into canvas. Xander lays still on the mat as Xplode covers him. The ref slides into position and count 1, 2, 3.
John Walt: And here is your winner...Xplode!
JJ: What a debut for this young man!
Larry: That’s how you make an impact!
(The camera cuts to the back as a red wall with the letters EUW is shown in front of the viewer. Raviel and Oblivion come into sight as the 2 of them turn and look at the camera.)
Raviel:
Tonight is Back 2 Roots. Tonight, Oblivion will ascend as the next legend to grace the ring. Evan Black's crusade will come to a crashing halt. The Pure title will be a honor and a right of passage to get a chance to win. So tonight....Oblivion will display his power!
(Raviel slowly lowers his head as Oblivion begins to speak. He is holding a photo of Evan Black in his hand.)
Oblivion:
Tonight Evan. Tonight your anger, your temper, will get you no where. The end of days comes to you. It has been coming for quite some time now. You have known this. You knew it was coming each week. You knew as every time you thought you banished me, I was yet again standing before you. Your countdown...began long ago. Tonight, Oblivion comes to you.
(Oblivion holds the photo of Evan Black high in the air. It suddenly explodes into flames as Oblivion lets it go. The remains of the photo, now ashes, drifts softly into the air.)
Oblivion:
The countdown to Oblivion.....begins now.
(camera fades out.)
John Walt: Ladies and gentlemen, it is now time to begin the Pure Title #1 Contendership Tournament! Four quarterfinal matches will take place consecutively, followed by two semifinals and a final round to decide the winner of the tournament. The quarterfinals will have a time limit of 10 minutes, 20 minutes for the semifinals, and no time limit for the finals.
JJ: Now its time for one of our quarterfinal matches between Evan Black and Oblivion.
Larry: Yep and Evan sure has a tough time ahead of him facing the beast that is Oblivion.
Paint it Black" by The Rolling Stones hits the sound system and Evan Black walks out to a huge ovation. He is wearing black tights and a EUW t-shirt. He walks down to the ring and jumps in quickly, climbing the top ropes and throwing the shirt into the crowd. He jumps off and turns to face his opponent.
Walt: In the ring at this time, weighing 220lbs and hailing from Seattle,WA. He is Evan Blaaaaaaaackk!
The lights slowly dim in the arena. The voices of the people who gathered for the event are deafening as an eerie silence takes place from the entrance. As if by imaginary hands, 2 torches blaze to life. One on each side of the entrance curtain. Lightning is heard but not seen around the arena as a thick fog rolls out down the ramp and around the ring. Oblivion's voice suddenly blares out of the arena sound system...
"The Countdown...Begins now!"
The slow piano intro of "Symphony of Destruction" begins. As the main riff begins on the intro song, Raviel, wearing a dark black suit and carrying a cane enters through the curtain and stands between the blazing red torches. He stops and looks around the arena as the intro song continues. The crowd goes nuts as Raviel turns and points his cane at the entrance curtain. As another lightning bolt is heard, Oblivion walks through the curtain. Wearing a long black leather trench coat, and his long hair matted with water, the Lord of the Abyss slowly makes his way to ringside. Raviel follows behind him, stopping occasionally to point at the crowd and laugh a evil laugh.
Walt: Making his way to the ring accompanied by his manager Raviel. Standing 6 foot 7 inches he is, Obbblivionnnnnnnn!
As Oblivion makes his way down the rampway, the lights on the rampway slowly come back on. Stepping up the side steps, Oblivion easily lifts his leg over the top rope and makes way to the middle of the ring. Raviel enters behind him and takes Oblivion's leather trench coat as he removes it. As Raviel leaves the ring with the coat, Oblivion, now standing in center of the ring and covered in a thick fog, drops to both knees...raises both hands, and the arena lights come back fully illuminated.
JJ: Both men seem eager in this tournament match up.
Larry: Well they better be, the winner has to fight again tonight if he wants to win the tournament.
Oblivion walks up to Evan who is looking up at the towering monster. Eager to start Black slaps Oblivion in the face hard, however this just angers the monster who retaliates with a hard punch straight to the face sending Evan straight down to the canvas. Oblivion goes to pick Evan up however he hits a hard low blow sending the giant to his knees.
JJ: Now that’s not fair.
Larry: Nothings fair in love and war JJ and these guys will do anything to win this tournament, even if it means bending the rules a little.
The ref warns Evan however Evan ignores this and goes for a kick straight to the head of Oblivion. Evan starts to taunt the crowd, happy that he has managed to get the big man down, however Oblivion is not down yet and he starts to get up. Now stood up fully he charges towards Evan who gets caught with a massive clothesline sending his back and neck crashing down on the canvas.
JJ: Evan got caught with his pants down there.
Larry: Yeh if he wants to win this tournament he can’t be making silly mistakes like that.
Oblivion goes for a pin but only gets a 2 count. Picking Evan up by the hair Oblivion starts hitting him with some closed fist punches leaving Black dazed and confused. With Evan still standing Oblivion goes for one final punishing punch, however out of nowehere Evan delivers a standing Pele kick straight to the temple of Oblivion. Leaving both men lay down in the middle of the ring, exhausted from the events that just unfolded.
JJ: What an amazing show of strength and stamina by Evan Black there.
Larry: Yeh but he may have just taken himself out of the match and the tournament with that.
With both men down the ref starts to count 1………2……….3…the men start to stir……..4……..5…..Oblivion starts to get himself up ……….6…….7 Oblivion is now up and he’s going for Evan. Evan however grabs Oblivion by the head and goes for a schoolboy 1…..2…..kick out! Oblivion surprised by this tries to get up however he is beaten by Evan who delivers kicks to Oblivions chest. Evan then runs to the ropes and on the return kicks Oblivion straight in the face. Evan then quickly goes for the pin 1……2…kick out.
JJ: Evan is showing some sheer determination coming into this one.
Larry: Yep but it wont last for long.
Evan waits for Oblivion to get to his feet, almost stalking him. Once Oblivion is up, Evan waits for the opportune moment then hits the Emerald City Special. The kick connects with the chin of Oblivion, sending him to the mat. Evan goes for the pin. 1...2...yet somehow Oblivion kicks out once again. Evan gets up again, frustrated and wondering what he has to do to finish Oblivion. Evan lifts Oblivion up slowly now, almost having to lift dead weight. Once Oblivion reaches his feet with help from Evan, Evan quickly lands the Paint it Black. Evan hooks the leg once more for 1...2...and finally...3!
John Walt: And here is your winner...Evan Black!
JJ: I told you he had some sheer determination coming into this. And you said it wouldn’t last. Who was right?
Larry: Well that was quite a match there. But this tournament is just getting started.
JJ: I suppose you’re right Larry.
Larry: Hah! You admit it! I am right!
JJ: Hey- never mind. It is now time for our second quarterfinal, Ben Stone vs. Chris Murphy.
The opening guitar of Nonpoint's "Everybody Down", begins roaring over the speakers. Chris comes charging past the curtain, a baseball bat clutched in his hand and raised above his head. He begins stalking down the ramp, interacting with the fans as he goes. When he reaches ringside, he leans his bat against the turnbuckle post and jumps onto the apron. He raises his fist, basking in the crowd's approval with a grin, then steps into the ring between the middle and top ropes. He goes to the center of the ring and raises both arms, his hands clenched in fists, then bright pyrotechnics explode from all four turnbuckle posts. Murphy goes to the corner and waits.
John Walt: Introducing first, weighing in at two hundred and thirty five pounds and standing six foot two. Hailing from Hell’s Kitchen, New York. He is “Hardcore” Chris Murphy!!
C.R.E.A.M hits the arena. The lights flicker with green and gold colors. Ben Stone enters from the backstage and the fans begin to boo. Stone walks down the ramp with his briefcase in hand. The fans yell and ridicule him as he walks down but Stone ignores them as he makes his way down. He rolls into the ring and hands the briefcase to a staff member on the outside.
John Walt: And his opponent, weighing in at two hundred and thirty five pounds and standing five foot eleven. Now residing in New York City, he is “The Business” Ben Stone.
Ben Stone and Chris Murphy stand face-to-face as the opening ring bell rings, indicating the start of the match. Both men don’t make a move yet, obviously considering how important this match is. Ben Stone takes a step backward and raises his right arm, challenging Chris Murphy to a test of strength but before Murphy can even respond Stone kicks him in the gut and follows it up with a sudden Russian Leg-Sweep. Ben quickly gets back up and tries to lock in an early sharpshooter but Chris Murphy retaliates by kicking him away, Stone attempts one more time but Murphy kicks him square in the jaw.
Chris quickly makes it back to his feet and scores with a dropkick, knocking Ben Stone to the ground. Both men spring back to their feet, Murphy kicks Stone in the gut and irish whips him to the turnbuckle. Stone crashes hard and Murphy charges straight towards him, Stone moves out of the way and Chris ends up crashing into the turnbuckle. The dazed Chris Murphy takes a couple of steps backward, Ben Stone quickly takes advantage and executes a near-perfect Cobra Clutch Slam on his opponent. Stone goes for the pinfall but Chris kicks out immediately at two; Stone slams the mat in frustration.
JJ: Ben Stone better watch his temper, something like that could cost him the match.
Larry: And I’m sure that’s the last thing he wants, especially considering his recent losing streak.
Ben goes to pick up Murphy but Murphy fights back with several punches but Stone kicks him hard in the gut, Ben then proceeds to pick up and irish whip Murphy towards the ropes. Chris collides and bounces off the ropes; Ben intercepts him and attempts a Belly-to-Belly suplex but Murphy headbutts his way out of the move. Stone let’s go and Chris proceeds to land a jaw-breaking superkick, knocking both men down.
The referee begins his 10-count, Ben Stone seems to be out cold but Chris Murphy slowly starts moving. The ref reaches to 5 before Murphy is able to fling his arm on Stone’s chest, thus initiating a pinfall. 1...2...but Stone kicks out just in time. Both men roll to opposite sides of the ring and use the ropes to get to their feet. After what seems like an eternity, both men are up. Stone and Murphy run at each other. Murphy attempts a superkick, but Stone ducks it. With Murphy caught off guard, Stone suddenly manages to hit the TIM, Time is Money. With the move connecting, Murphy hooks the leg for what should be an elementary pin. The referee counts 1...2...but somehow Murphy kicks out. Stone looks absolutely furious, as he slides out of the ring and grabs his briefcase. Stone slides back into the ring with Murphy just getting to his feet. Without any regard to the match, Stone runs and slams the briefcase into the head of Chris Murphy. The referee sees the blatant shot and calls for the bell.
John Walt: And here is your winner by disqualification...Chris Murphy!
JJ: What the hell was that?! He just lost the match on purpose!
Larry: Well apparently all he wanted to do was hurt Chris Murphy.
JJ: Well mission accomplished.
Stone looks at the blood on the briefcase and appears to ignore it as he slides out of the ring and walks backstage with the briefcase in hand. The referee calls for some trainers who check Murphy and help him out of the arena.
JJ: That isn’t going to be good for Murphy, he’ll want to be as refreshed as possible for his semifinal match.
Larry: But he doesn’t have much choice but to hope for the best. Which at this point, the best sucks for him.
JJ: Well the best or not, this tournament has to continue. It’s time for our third quarterfinal of the night, Hi Octane vs. Matt Rodriguez.
Larry: This is what, the 48th meeting between these two?
Matthew walks out of the backstage area with his tight's on with the colors of red and black. The design on his sides were golden microphones. He walked slowly to the ring with "Feeling Good" slowly playing on the PA system. He stands on the apron with his right arm raised into the air, and falls the bounces onto his chest three times. Getting into the ring he does a little spin with his arms out like a Kurt Angle type way.
John Walt: Introducing first...from Tampa Bay, Florida...weighing in at 234 pounds...Matt Rodriguez!
Once he stops, he is directed towards the side with the commentators. He then raises his hands in the air for the microphone to come down. A golden microphone is shown slowly falling down in the bright light shined on Matthew. Matthew stands and yells into the microphone as loud as he can. "I am undefeated, I am a submission god, I am the essence of professional wrestling!!!", Finally letting go of the microphone he smiles with the crowd giving a large "You’re a Traitor" chant.
The Ten Dollar Man by ZZ Top blares throughout the arena as flames erupt from the stage. But only Hi Octane's manager, Lo Hydro, carrying a bucket, towel and water bottle, emerges from the curtain. The camera pans around the arena looking for Hi Octane.
John Walt: And his opponent...making his way to the ring from Houston, Texas...accompanied by Lo Hydro...weighing in at 220 pounds...Hi Octane!
He is finally found sitting with the fans in the third row. He jumps up once the camera zooms in on him and rushes to the ring. He pulls off his t-shirt and wind pants before entering the ring and sitting in the corner listening to the advice of Lo Hydro.
While Octane is still getting advice from Lo Hydro, Matt catches him off guard with a running knee to the corner. Matt stays on him, proceeding with several stomps then pushing his head into the mat with his boot. After the stomps, Matt drags Octane nearer the center of the ring. He quickly locks on a one legged boston crab in hopes of ending the match quickly. Octane can be seen reaching out in pain, looking for any way to relieve the hold. Matt increases the tension on Octane, as he looks as if he’s about to tap. Octane uses one last effort to reach out and grab the ropes. The referee counts 1...2...3...4...and Matt barely breaks the hold in time.
JJ: Matt needs to be careful or he’ll get disqualified.
Larry: He’s just doing what it takes to win.
Matt backs away from Hi Octane, allowing him to reach his feet. Octane finally gets up with the help of the ropes. Matt stays on the offensive though, running at him once more. Octane ducks down and pulls the top rope with him, causing Matt’s momentum to send him out of the ring. Octane sees this and begins celebrating in the ring. He then climbs to the top turnbuckle and leaps off with a moonsault. Octane then lands on his feet in the ring, feeling accomplished by this athletic feat. The referee is now up to a 3 for a countout. Matt eventually gets to his feet, reaching the apron. The referee stops at a count of 6. Octane runs at Matt now to knock him off the apron, but Matt reverses it with a shoulder to the gut of Octane.
JJ: What a reversal by Matt Rodriguez!
Larry: That’s how you stop a guy’s momentum!
Octane doubles over near the ropes and Matt leaps over to roll into a pin. The referee slides in for 1...2...but Octane struggles out of it just in time. Octane and Matt reach their feet simultaneously and they lock up in the center of the ring. Matt pushes Octane back, gaining an advantage, when Octane manages an amateur wrestling style takedown on Matt. With Matt down, Octane attempts to lock on the Hi Tension, but Matt battles out of it. Matt gets Octane to his feet quickly and hits a fisherman suplex. With Octane down, Matt slides out of the ring and goes to the timekeeper. Matt shoves the timekeeper down to receive several boos and he grabs the chair that the timekeeper was seated on.
JJ: What in the hell is he doing?! That’s an EUW official!
Larry: You think he gives a damn? Do you really?
Matt slides into the ring and goes to use the chair but the referee stops him. Matt and the referee fight over the chair for a bit, but Matt eventually lets the referee get the chair. The referee goes to set the chair on the ground in the corner of the ring as mat goes after Octane. Just as he’s about to get Octane though, Lo Hydro jumps up on the apron and starts yelling. The referee sees this and goes to get Lo Hydro off the apron. With the referee distracted, Matt grabs the chair and uses it to land a shot directly with the skull of Hi Octane. Octane hits the mat with a thud as Matt slides the chair out of the ring. Lo Hydro eventually gets down, stopping his yelling. Matt goes for a pin to get a 1...2...but Matt stops the pin himself. The referee stares at him.
JJ: What was that? He had this match won!
Larry: Well apparently he didn’t want it to end just yet.
Matt slides out of the ring and grabs the chair once he’s out. Lo Hydro moves around the ring after Matt, aiming to stop him from using the chair again. As Lo Hydro approaches, Matt waits for him to get in just the right spot. Once Lo Hydro is almost to Matt, Matt swings with the chair and takes Lo Hydro out completely. The referee looks on, unable to do anything since Lo Hydro is not a participant in the match. Matt slides back in and lies down to pin Hi Octane again. The referee counts an elementary 1...2...3!
John Walt: And here is your winner...Matt Rodriguez!
JJ: He cheated! And then he attacked Lo Hydro without being provoked!
Larry: You do what you have to in order to win. And Lo Hydro was about to attack him, Matt had plenty of right to defend himself.
JJ: Yeah...sure.
