The engine of the Harley Davidson Rocker C dies as the keys are turned to silence the loud purr before Roy steps off and over his baby letting it lean on its kickstand while he handled the work that needed to get done. Roy was clad in black leather boots with the tops being hidden but the boot cut blue jeans, which were held onto his hips with a black and red studded belt with a snake head for a belt buckle. His shirt was black with EUW slanted across the front and the back was covered by his Harley Davidson riding jacket. Letting out a long sigh, Roy started to approach the building in front of him the letters EUW staring him down as he passed the parked cars of the employees of the EUW management building.
Once inside the building Roy walked to the front desk and politely took off his sunglasses as he smiled at the desk clerk “Um excuse me miss, I have an appointment with Mr. Kennedy.”
The clerk looked at Roy, somewhat shocked, and stared at his hair “What?” she asked obviously distracted.
Roy smiled holding back a laugh. He loved the reaction his dark green spiked mohawk caused whenever he entered the office building of a corporation “I have a meeting with Mr. Kennedy” he repeated kindly drawing the clerks attention away from his hair.
“Top floor last door in the hallway” The clerk stuttered in disbelief as she looked Roy over not believing her eyes. How could this guy expect to get hired with a hairstyle like that? She thought to herself as Roy was walking towards the elevators. After Roy pushed the button to call for his ride to the top he turned to face the clerk and lifted his hand to his forehead with just is middle and pointer finger extended. Once he pressed the two fingers to his head he flicked them in the direction of the clerk with a wink as the elevator dinged and the doors opened allowing him to step into the machine with that being the last memory of him etched in the mind of the simple desk clerk.
Roy stood in the elevator with a smile on his face. Ten years of work just for this meeting can’t believe I’ve finally got my shot. He thought as he stared at the indicator at the top signaling how many floor he had left. Now I have to just not blow it. But if he wasn’t interested in what I’ve done in Dublin why would I be here? Roy’s thoughts were interrupted by the elevator dinging and the doors opening. Roy swallowed hard while clenching and unclenching his fist repeatedly calming his nerves. This was everything he had worked for the last ten years of his life and it was at the end of the hallway set in front of him. Stepping out of the elevator and heading down the hallway Roy controlled his breathing knowing that this was his chance and not wanting to be too nervous or seem too brash to put that chance in danger. Slowly he raised his hand preparing to knock on the door labeled ‘Mr. Kennedy’ before he heard from the other side “Don’t bother just come on in.” Roy was stunned for a second before smiling and turning the handle to let himself in.
“Thank you for seeing me sir.” Roy led as he closed the door behind him before noticing the office. There was no wall behind the majestic pine oak desk of EUW’s CEO instead there was a window with a view of the entire city. The wall on the left, from Roy’s view, contained two bookshelves which were filled with books some had court cases on their spines while others were fiction novels Roy had read himself. In between the bookshelves there was a plasma twenty-seven inch flat screen that Roy concluded Mr. Kennedy used to watch EUW if he didn’t attend it. On the right, however, there were boxes each with the name of a EUW wrestler, some Roy knew and some he didn’t but he assumed those boxes contained the contracts of those men. The rest of the room was rather normal four plants one in each of the corners of the office, a portrait of Mr. Kennedy hung on the right of the wall Roy walked in through and a poster for the upcoming pay-per-view hung on the left. However the light from the large window caught the top of the grand red leather throne like chair that was behind the pine oak desk just right to make anyone’s focus center on it. In that chair sat Mr. Kennedy arms folded until he saw Roy’s eyes lock with his. Mr. Kennedy then shifted his hands so that one was on a stack of papers on the desk in front of him and the other moved to the remote at the edge of the desk and turned on the television. Roy held back a gasp as highlights from some of his matches in Japan and the United Kingdom flashed across the screen. “Roy you’ve done a lot of minor leagues and now I’ve asked you here to see if you want to play with the big boys” Mr. Kennedy said in a controlled business voice while Roy’s eyes continued to drifted from the television to Mr. Kennedy to the paper and back to the television repeating the triangle as his mind races unsure if this is a dream or reality.
After several moments Roy took a seat across from Mr. Kennedy in a simple folding chair obviously used to make sure those that sat in it knew they were beneath the man that sat across from them. “What do you need from me?” Roy asked very calmly as he hung his head unable think with all his dreams in front of him.
“A tryout match and proof you want to be here” Mr. Kennedy said slightly off his game. Usually they demand what they want and he is just sitting there asking what I need what’s his angle. Roy raised his head, while the CEO thought, before moving the thumb and pointer finger of his right hand to the piercing in the center of his lower lip before he smiled. Roy leaned on the folding chair with both hands.
“Do you need a face or a heel and do you need me to lose or win against whoever you pick for my match?” Roy asked knowing he was in a business and his record and desires didn’t matter so long as he had a job. Hopefully a lack of agenda will help me more than hurt, he thought as he gauged is hopeful employer’s reaction.
As Roy had voiced his rebuttal Mr. Kennedy’s head twisted to the side. He didn’t ask if he wins he instead asked what I wanted does he not care about this or is he working me? Mr. Kennedy battled in his mind and being the CEO he wasn’t about to be played by some kid so rather than play the kids game he decided to get all the cards on the table. “What do you mean Roy?” he asked leaning back in his chair folding his hands so that each finger pressed against its counterpart forming a triangle in front of his eyes watching Roy’s actions and studying him.
“I mean you are running a business and I want to work for you. I can’t work for you if business is bad so rather than come in here and demand something I have no right to ask for I’m asking what do you need to make business better.” Roy explained fighting the urge to pace knowing that he was being studied and analyzed “I’m the new guy I have to offer something so what I’m offering to you and EUW is business I won’t care if I win or lose I don’t care if I hold a title. I want to work for EUW and I want EUW to stay around. You ask me to do a moonsalt off a moving van I’ll do it. Four fifty and miss okay. You ask you’ll get so long as it won’t kill me, if I’m injured I get the time off, and I keep my job. That is what I mean.” Roy finished sitting in the chair and putting his hands on the desk accenting his next words “I’ll be your go to guy. I don’t want to be a jobber but if that’s what you need I will. I just want to work wrestle for EUW that is all plain and simple.”
Mr. Kennedy sat across looking at this boy debating. Plain and simple, really? Not many dare try what he is alluding to. He’s throwing his chance at titles into the fire just for a chance at working for me. But, if he is as good as my scouts say this could be brilliant. I’ll see what he can do in the ring.“Bring your gear to the next show and you’ll be filled in then as to what part you’ll play. I hope you are a man of your word Roy” Mr. Kennedy said waving Roy out of the room.
Roy stood up from the chair “Thank you sir and I am.” Roy said almost speechless as he turned to leave the office. As he turned the handle he heard the scribble of a pen on paper causing him to beam while he took his first steps out of Mr. Kennedy’s office. As he walked down the hall back towards the elevator he continued to shake his head “one chance” he kept saying to himself. Once at the elevator Roy moves his hand to push the down arrow before the stairs sign caught his eye. If I take those that clerk won’t know what happened and won’t see me until the next time I’m needed here. Roy stands there weighing his options before letting out a small chuckle and walking towards the stairs thinking about how ironic it was to him. Elevator up simple and easy like his brawls and fights he had gone through to get here and the steps down indicating the hard work was just beginning.
